Title: Applied Simulation in Health Care
Time: Sunday, Dec 26, 2005

Abstract:
Simulation techniques (discrete event simulation and system dynamics) have been applied to a wide range of industries. This presentation discusses two case studies of their application in health care industry. The first is a discrete event simulation of blood banking in Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver, completed in 2003. The second is an ongoing research on modeling Cardiology patient flow in a Canadian hospital using system dynamics. Some practical barriers to developing and implementing these simulation models are discussed based on the findings of these two real-world projects.
